Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated during a speech in the city of Wakayama on Saturday after an object resembling a smoke bomb was thrown at him, Japanese media reported.

The incident happened before noon local time in the port of Saikazaki in Wakayama Prefecture, about 65 kilometers southwest of the city of Osaka.

It looked like a smoke bomb

Prime Minister Kishida began giving a speech after visiting the port when a suspicious object was thrown in his direction. Moments later, there was a loud explosion. The man who threw the charge was overpowered, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported. The media reported that the object appeared to be a smoke bomb.

Kishida left the scene unharmed, police said.

One of the recordings shows a dispersing crowd and several policemen overpowering a man, who is taken from the scene a moment later. Japanese media noted that the suspect appeared to be between 20 and 30 years old.
