A Japanese government spokesman admitted that the official photo of the new cabinet was photoshopped. Fragments of the prime minister's and minister's shirts, which protruded from under the suit, were removed from the photo. As he said, the correction was necessary because this photo “will remain as a souvenir forever.”

In photos taken by the media during the October inauguration of the new government Japan you can see that the shirts of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and the Minister of Defense are slightly protruding from under the suit around the waist. It is no longer visible in the official photo published by the Prime Minister's office.

There were mocking comments about this on social media. “This is worse than a group photo of some senior club during a trip to the hot springs. Absolutely embarrassing,” wrote one user on the X platform, quoted by the BBC. Another user said it was obvious that cabinet members were wearing the wrong size suits.

Government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi responded to the comments by saying that “a slight edit was made” to the photo of the new government. He explained that the correction was necessary because the photo “will remain forever as a souvenir” and “usually such materials are slightly edited.”

The photo was taken on October 3 during the inauguration of the new Japanese government. Then 67-year-old Ishiba replaced the outgoing Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Two days later, the first meeting of the new government took place.

Shigeru Ishiba has already announced plans to hold early elections on October 27. According to Reuters, “it is essential that people evaluate the new administration as soon as possible.” Elections will decide which party will control the lower house of parliament.
