An earthquake hit north-central Japan on Monday, public broadcaster NHK reported. It had a magnitude of 7.6. Tsunami warnings have been issued.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 was recorded in Japan on Monday. The epicenter was 45 kilometers northeast of the city of Anamizu on the island of Honshu, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. According to them, the quake had a magnitude of 7.5. The hypocenter was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Tsunami warnings

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning along the western coastal regions of Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama prefectures.

According to the weather agency, a tsunami up to 5 meters high could reach Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture.
