An indictment against a 39-year-old man from Jaraczewo (Wielkopolskie Voivodeship) has been filed with the court, who allegedly robbed graves in cemeteries in Jarocin and Środa districts for six years. The man wants to voluntarily submit to punishment.

Thefts in cemeteries in the counties of Jarocin and Środa Śląska (Wielkopolskie Voivodship) occurred in the period from 2017 to 2022. The thief wasn’t picky. – He stole everything from the tombstones – artificial flowers, bouquets, porcelain angels, pots, lanterns – said Maciej Meler, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrów Wielkopolski.

A breakthrough in the case came in 2022, when a stolen bouquet was found on one of the graves in the Jarocin cemetery. The investigation led the police to a resident of Jaraczewo, the son of the deceased buried in a grave where flowers were found.

He stole to sell

Stolen items from tombstones were found in his home during a search. The man admitted that he was selling ornaments.

A 39-year-old from Jaraczew was accused of robbing graves. An indictment in this case has just been filed with the District Court in Jarocin. According to prosecutor Meler, the man wants to voluntarily submit to a sentence of seven months in prison with a conditional suspension of one year. In addition, it is to reimburse the victims.
