Jarosław Kaczyński confirmed that the PiS congress will take place on September 28. He denied reports of “eliminating” Beata Szydło from the position of vice-president. He added that “we will have to get rid of” some people from the party.
Kaczyński asked by journalists in the Sejm whether the congress will be held on September 28 PISconfirmed the date. – At this congress we will make some changes to the statute, personnel changes. But to be clear, no one has the intention of eliminating anyone – here we are talking primarily about Beata Szydło – from the position of vice-president – he noted.
The PiS leader added that a merger with Sovereign Poland will probably take place during the congress, although – as he admitted – this has not yet been finally decided.
Kaczyński indicated that these would be the two main points of the congress, but – as he noted – there would also be others.
– Because you can say that our formation is a spreading tree, but some branches have withered a bit and they will have to be cut off. Because we are not interested in members who are passive or do not feel any connection with the party at all. They were good when we were in power. There are such people, as you know, in all parties, so we will have to get rid of them and create an appropriate procedure for this – he said.
He added that the congress “must be included in the preparations for the presidential elections”. Asked whether the PiS candidate for president would be announced on November 11, he replied: – Perhaps it will be.
Reports of PiS reorganization and Szydło's response
In mid-August, “Rzeczpospolita” reported that Law and Justice was preparing for the presidential election. According to the newspaper, the party was to undergo a reorganization as a result of which the current vice-presidents: Beata Szydło and Antoni Macierewicz, were to lose their positions.
“If you don't want me in the PiS leadership so much, then say it publicly, and don't run around anonymously whispering to journalists. Courage, gentlemen!” – Szydło wrote on Monday on Platform X, referring to this information.
PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek denied these reports.
