The 76-year-old cyclist rode the Lower Silesian section of the S3 expressway. Stopped by policemen, he explained that by choosing this route “he wanted to shorten his journey”. The man got a ticket. And the police remind that cyclists cannot use expressways and highways.
– Before 6 o’clock in the morning, the duty officer of the Jawor police received a report about a cyclist who was moving along the expressway. The information provided showed that the man was driving lane towards Legnica – says Krzysztof Marcjan from the press office of the Lower Silesian police.
Police: he wanted to shorten his journey by driving the expressway
Officers quickly tracked down the cyclist. The 76-year-old, detained for inspection, explained to the police that he was going to Legnica for tourist purposes. – As he said, he just wanted to shorten his journey by driving the expressway – reports Marcjan. And he adds that while driving S3, the cyclist wanted to cover the 20-kilometer section of the road between the Jawor Wschód and Legnica Południe junctions.
The 76-year-old was fined PLN 250 and – assisted by the police – was escorted to a place from which he could safely continue his journey.
We remind you that cyclists cannot use expressways and highways. This also applies when the cyclist moves along the emergency lane or the roadside. Failure to follow these rules may pose a great risk to the cyclist, but also to other road users.
