During the flood, there was a failure of the sewage treatment plant in Jelenia Góra (Lower Silesia Province). For over a week, sewage has been going straight into the Bóbr River. The sanitary inspectorate recommends not drinking water “straight from the tap”.
The sewage treatment plant failure occurred on Sunday, September 15, during the heaviest rainfall in the region. Due to the failure, sewage flows directly into the river. – The sewage flows into the Bóbr, it is limited by sorption sleeves, there is no other option. A sorption sleeve has been deployed on the Bóbr River to catch larger impurities, we are waiting for the delivery of nets to eliminate, i.e. screenings – informs Zbigniew Rzońca, press officer of the “WODNIK” Water and Sewage Company in Jelenia Góra.
According to the company, the losses are initially estimated at several dozen million zlotys.
– Power supply to the transformer stations has been restored and work is underway to provide power to the internal circuits. Repairs to the composter have been commenced. Water has been pumped out of the pumping station building, which has enabled the commencement of pump checks, and work has commenced to start the overhead crane. We are waiting for the delivery of an aerator for the bioreactor to maintain the processes taking place there – he explains.

As recommended on September 24, the State District Sanitary Inspector in Jelenia Góra, as a preventive measure, tap water should be boiled for drinking – do not drink water “straight from the tap”.
