We all agree that Ukraine is gradually moving closer to NATO and has been doing so for several years. We confirm: NATO’s doors are open, Ukraine will become a member of NATO, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday in Brussels. He also announced further steps to support Ukraine militarily.
At a press conference in Brussels after a meeting of defense ministers NATO countries Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg spoke about the planned aid for Ukraine. He announced, among others new deliveries of medium and long-range missiles.
– Allies also intend to support Ukraine through a broad support package. There are pledges of EUR 500 million so far. We are working on a long-term package that will support Ukraine’s military sector and ensure its full interoperability with the NATO alliance. So that any future Russian attack would be thwarted and that Ukraine would be closer to NATO in practical terms, Stoltenberg said.
He announced that work is underway to establish a new NATO-Ukraine Council. – Ukraine will then have an equal place at the table with its NATO partners and we will discuss issues related to common issues. It is our ambition that such a first meeting be held in Vilnius with the participation of President Zelenskiy, said the head of NATO in Brussels.

“We don’t know when this war will end, but when it does, we need to put in place the kind of framework that will ensure Ukraine’s future security and ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself,” he said.
