One of the most outstanding Polish actors, Jerzy Stuhr, died at the age of 77. On Tuesday, his friends from the acting world remembered him and said goodbye.

That evening, his son Maciej Stuhr posted a symbolic photo on Facebook. The photo, in black and white, was accompanied by a single word: “Gratitude.”

The photograph shows three people from behind, walking on a slightly inclined trail between trees, in a characteristic pose. It is Jerzy Stuhr, Maciej Stuhr, and a child of several years old walking between them. It is probably the grandson of the deceased actor, Tadeusz.

Jerzy Stuhr struggled with laryngeal cancer in 2011. He managed to beat the disease. In mid-May 2023, “Gazeta Wyborcza” reported that a few weeks earlier, the 76-year-old actor had undergone a second operation to remove laryngeal cancer. He had also undergone, among other things, stroke and a heart attack.

He gained extraordinary popularity for his roles in Feliks Falk's “Wodzirej”, Krzysztof Kieślowski's “Amator” and “Dekalog X” or in Juliusz Machulski's comedies “Seksmisja” and “Kiler”, quotes from which have become a permanent part of the Polish language. We will also remember the films he directed, such as “Spis cudzołożnic” or “Wielkie zwierza”. Even the youngest viewers know his dubbing roles and associate his voice with the character of Donkey – the witty friend of the green ogre from the “Shrek” films.
