US President Joe Biden’s visit to Poland is an absolutely fundamental event for us, President Andrzej Duda said on Monday. As he added, in the coming days he will launch a “diplomatic offensive”, during which, before Biden’s trip, he will meet with the NATO secretary general, the prime minister of Great Britain, the chancellor of Germany, the president of France and the presidents of Lithuania and Slovakia

President Andrzej Duda presented his plans for the next week on Monday, before the president’s visit USA in Poland, scheduled for February 20-22. He said that the time before Biden’s visit is a very good time to “take a kind of diplomatic offensive.” – Regardless of the arrival of President Biden, we have designed a whole range of activities (…) and we are actually launching this diplomatic offensive literally in the coming days – said Duda.

He announced that on Tuesday he would talk via videoconference with the President of Slovakia Zuzana Czaputova and the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, on Thursday in Brussels he would meet NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and then he would go to the UK to meet with King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

– Then I will go to Munich, where there will be a meeting with the German chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as with the newly elected President of the Czech Republic (Petr Pavel – ed.) and the Prime Minister of Norway (Jonas Gahr Stoer – ed.), the president informed.

He announced that the key topic of the meeting with the NATO secretary general will be issues related to the NATO summit in Vilnius scheduled for July, as well as the meeting of the leaders of the Bucharest Nine countries, which will take place in Warsaw during President Biden’s visit.

The president reminded that Slovakia is currently the host of B9, and Lithuania will host the upcoming NATO summit – hence, as he said, the talk with the leaders of these countries scheduled for Tuesday.

President: An absolutely fundamental event for us

The president stressed that the anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine was approaching and, as he noted, “a whole series of various international events.” As he pointed out, the two most important of them are the Munich Security Conference and the visit of the US president Joe Biden in Poland. As he assessed, this visit is “an absolutely fundamental event for us”.

– So this is also the time for us and meetings related to building the security of the Republic of Poland in this political field, in talks with our allies, in meetings that lead us to the most important political event in terms of security issues this year, namely the NATO summit, which will take place in early summer in Lithuania, this year in Vilnius, said Duda.

He noted that preparations for this summit are “in full swing” and the upcoming meetings, which will soon be held in Warsaw and elsewhere, are already preparatory activities “for what we care about the most.”

– First of all, we want to strengthen Poland’s security, not only to lead to the full implementation of the decisions of the Madrid summit, but also to adopt new resolutions that, on the one hand, will allow us to support Ukraine in its defense to an even greater extent and more efficiently territory, in repelling the Russian attack, jointly within the framework of allied agreements, but above all to strengthen our security, above all to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank, and thus to persuade our allies to direct larger military forces that will be stationed in our part of Europe to NATO’s eastern flank, to create new programs in this area, and to increase the Alliance’s infrastructural presence in our part of Europe in this area, stressed the president.
