Joe Lieberman, a former longtime Democratic U.S. senator and former attorney general of Connecticut, has died at the age of 82, Reuters reported. In the 2000 presidential election, Lieberman ran for vice president alongside Al Gore.

Lieberman was an American politician, lobbyist and lawyer, who previously represented the Democratic Party.

His political career lasted almost half a century. In 1970, he was elected to the Connecticut State Senate. Later, in the years 1983-1989, he was the attorney general of this state, and then – for 24 years, until 2013 – the representative of Connecticut in the US Senate.

In the 2000 presidential election, Lieberman ran for vice president alongside Al Gore. In 2020, Lieberman supported Joe Biden in the fight for the office of President of the United States.
