I was absolutely devastated. I looked at those people I often know, their stubbornness, their Pharisaism – said Paweł Kowal, MP of the Civic Coalition on TVN24, commenting on the attitude of representatives of the government camp to the death of the son of MP Magdalena Filiks, as well as information about John Paul II presented in the report “Franciszkańska 3”. – We have a war just across the border, we have a divided society that is incapable of cooperation and we have politicians who will take advantage of every tragedy – said Paweł Zalewski from Poland 2050.

Marcin Gutowski in the latest report “Franciszkańska 3” from the series “Bielmo” showed unknown facts from the life of Karol Wojtyła from the time when he was not the pope yet. The reporter talked to the victims of priests who were still under Cardinal Wojtyla in the 1960s. He reached the people who personally informed the cardinal about the crimes committed by the clergy, and the church documents confirming the actions and omissions of Wojtyla.

Zalewski: the victims are the most important

Paweł Kowal, MP from the Civic Coalition, and Paweł Zalewski from Poland 2050 discussed this issue in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24.

Zalewski said that “you always have to look at the facts that happened in the past in context.” However, he added that this does not conflict with the fact that “the context of the victims should be the most important”.

Referring to the resolution adopted last week by the Sejm on “defending the good name of St. John Paul II”, he said that it “was overshadowed by the enormous harm done to children and young people, and in fact this harm should be in the foreground”.

In his opinion, it is necessary to “put things from head to foot”. “The victims are the most important, we certainly shouldn’t cover it up, bury it,” he added.

Kowal: John Paul II did a lot of good, but in some cases he made very serious mistakes

Paweł Kowal spoke about how politicians from the government camp use – in his opinion – the image of the Pope for political struggle. – United Right led in Poland, in partnership with several bishops, (…) to the fact that in Poland there is the greatest secularization of society in the whole world – he stated.

– This is the time of maturity and common sense, John Paul II was one of the most important politicians in the history of Poland, perhaps the greatest Polish politician in the 20th century, he did a lot of good. Today we also know that he made very serious mistakes in several matters, which we do not fully know what resulted from – perhaps from his character, perhaps from the fact that he was too good to his colleagues, perhaps from what that era looked like said MP. At the same time, he added that “it is still time for historical research”.

Zalewski: We have politicians who will take advantage of every tragedy, we must change it

The guests of the program also talked about the social divisions that currently exist in Poland.

In this context, they referred, among others, to the case of the death of the son of Magdalena Filiks, an MP from the Civic Coalition. The boy was 15 years old, he committed suicide. It is impossible to unequivocally judge the reasons for taking one’s own life, the investigation into the death of the 15-year-old is being conducted by the Szczecin prosecutor’s office. At the turn of the year, the government media at the turn of the year led to the identification of the MP’s son as the victim of a convicted pedophile.

Zalewski said that “politics made on graves is the worst policy”. – All this is related to the political concept that has been implemented in Poland for a little over twenty years – the total division of Poles based on emotions, polarization. This is terrible, because it not only divides the nation, but also weakens its ability to act creatively, and it is extremely needed today in the conditions of war that we have abroad – he said.

– We have a war just across the border, we have a divided society that is unable to cooperate and we have politicians who will take advantage of any tragedy, not only national but also personal. We need to change this, this is the most important message for these elections – he stressed.

Blacksmith on government actions: I sincerely believe that people will not stand it

Paweł Kowal, referring to the death of the son of MP Filiks and the actions of the government media, said that “people have a general feeling that it is immoral and unethical.” He added that “government media will have to change and will change after the elections.”

MP he also spoke about the attitude of politicians in the government camp on this matter. – After all, I know many people in that camp, we sit together in the parliamentary benches, we meet in the corridor. I hope I don’t hurt anyone, but I have a feeling that there wasn’t a single righteous person in that camp who would come out and say: “Wait, you’re going to keep attacking this mother like this, don’t you have any conscience?” They did it in parallel with the defense of John Paul II. I was absolutely devastated. I looked at these people I often know, their stubbornness, their Pharisaism, he continued.

At the same time, Kowal stated that “justice will come back to them”. “Not aimed at revenge, it will only come back in the form of a political loss, lost elections,” he added.

– I sincerely believe that people will not stand it, that this assumption that Poles will not understand is an expression of great arrogance towards Poles, that they can be pushed with any propaganda and (I believe – ed.) that Poles will remove them from power, because it is really the only solution, he said.
