The European Medicines Agency has started evaluating the application for a booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine. Assessment results are expected within a few weeks. The preparation could be administered at least two months after the first dose to persons 18 years of age and older.
‘The Committee on Medicines for the People (CHMP) of the EMA will conduct an accelerated evaluation of data submitted by the company that markets the vaccine. These data include the results of studies of over 14,000 adults who received a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine or placebo two months after the first dose. The results of this evaluation are expected within a few weeks, unless further information is needed, “the European Medicines Agency (EMA) reported Monday to the media.
In accordance with the current EMA recommendations, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is approved for use in people aged 18 years and older, and full vaccination is to be guaranteed by one dose of the preparation.
