The possible exit of Poland from the European Union was one of the topics of “Faktów po Faktach” on TVN24. Professor Marek Belka commented on the matter. – It is a big lie to compare the situation in our country to the situation in, for example, Germany – he assessed.

Professor Marek Belka, former prime minister and former president of the National Bank of Poland, currently an MEP in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, was asked about the situation around pro-EU demonstrations after the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal, which the opposition and some public opinion considered the introduction to Poland’s exit from the European Union. Government representatives and PiS politicians deny the vision of the polexit. They reiterate that similar judgments were issued by tribunals in other EU countries.

Concrete24: The narrative of the authorities after the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal: similar judgments were made in France, Germany, Italy, Spain … This is not true

– First of all, it is one big lie to compare the situation in our country to the situation in, for example, Germany – he commented. – The German Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe had doubts as to whether certain activities of the European Central Bank did not exceed the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. In his ruling, he stressed several times that European law has primacy over national law. In the end, the matter was clarified – he reminded.

Belka continued that “it can be said that such a propaganda thesis sent by the government to the society that we cannot be discriminated against, that other countries also (they say – ed.) Is one big lie.”

– Our situation is completely different. No one else, including the government, has questioned the legality of the EU treaties and their compliance with the constitution – he stated. According to him, this situation “is the dropping of an atomic bomb on the legal system of the European Union.” – This is associated with possible, very severe consequences for Poland – he noted.
