Pro-EU demonstrations are planned on Sunday at Zamkowy Square in Warsaw, as well as in many other cities in Poland and abroad. Some of them have already started. This is a reaction to Thursday’s judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal, which found that some provisions of EU law are inconsistent with the Polish constitution.
The full Constitutional Tribunal, chaired by President Julia Przyłębska, dealt on Thursday with the matter initiated by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the end of March, concerning the constitutionality of some of the provisions of the Treaty on European Union. On that day, the Constitutional Tribunal found in a judgment that some of the EU regulations asked by the head of government are inconsistent with the constitution.
In response to this decision, the acting chairman of the Civic Platform, Donald Tusk, on the same day initiated a demonstration at 6 pm on Sunday at Castle Square. He called for the participation of “all those who want to defend European Poland”.

Tusk: I invite you because I feel obligated
On Friday, in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, Donald Tusk explained his intentions. – I invite you, because I feel obliged, as a Pole who was the head of the European Council, to pay special attention to what is happening in our membership in the European Union – he said. “I take this problem very seriously,” he added.
– I have warned everyone for many, many months that this march to polexit, preparing Poland for leaving the European Union, is a serious project. It can really happen – continued Tusk.
He also made a reservation that he was not hosting the Sunday event. – I gave the signal (…). I feel very responsible for Poland’s position in the European Union, so I proposed a place and time, but Warsaw and the people of Warsaw are the hosts. All those who will want will participate in it – he added.
On Saturday, the co-chairman of the New Left, Robert Biedroń, declared in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 that he would appear at the picket. – I believe that the entire opposition should be there today in solidarity. I talked to Donald Tusk, I talked to other leaders. The Left will be there, the leaders of the Left will appear there – he said.
The announcement of the Sunday manifestation was referred to by the president of the March of Independence association, Robert Bąkiewicz, who announced a counter-demonstration.
