Kałęczyn. Used engine oil was dumped into the Basinka River

Firefighters prevented a leak of a petroleum substance into the Basinka River in Kałęczyn near Grodzisk Mazowiecki. According to the services’ findings, the source of the leak was a damaged tank located on private property.

On Friday, after 2:30 p.m., firefighters received reports from city guards about traces of oil floating on the water. – A total of three fire brigade units were dispatched to the site, with a chemical trailer – informs aspirant Krzysztof Stefaniak, spokesman for the District Fire Department Headquarters in Grodzisk Mazowiecki.

– In the first phase of the action, the actions consisted in limiting the spread of the stain using sorption sleeves, and then using a chemical pump to pump the substance to a replacement tank – explains the firefighter.

According to the services’ findings, the leak occurred from a damaged 200-liter tank located on a private property.

The police, the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, the District Crisis Management Center and the authorities of Grodzisk Mazowiecki were notified about the incident. The owner of the damaged container was also identified.

Preliminary findings show that the leaking tank contained used engine oil.
