Inmates from the prison in Kalisz (Greater Poland Voivodeship) joined the action of helping children who had suffered in accidents. They sew pillows and cuddly toys for them, which policemen and firefighters will hand out to children during interventions.
As part of therapeutic activities, inmates from the External Department in Kalisz sewed over 100 pillows and cuddly toys. The head of the facility, together with the educator, handed them over to the police and fire brigades.
Help in the first moments after an accident
– Uniforms who work in accidents involving children, often emphasize that the mascot can turn out to be very useful in the first moments after a traumatic event, it is helpful in distracting attention or in making contact with a frightened child – explains Cpt. Milena Garcarek from the prison service.

According to Garcarek, the convicts willingly participate in aid actions. – Thanks to this, they gain new skills and qualifications. By helping another person, they develop kindness, empathy, and tolerance. It significantly increases their chances of getting off the criminal path – he adds.
The action of sewing pillows and cuddly toys will be continued. The next batches will also be handed over to the services.
