The new PlusLiga season began in mid-September. In the first match of the season, there was a surprise, as Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie lost 2:3 to Bogdanka Luka Lublin (29:27, 22:25, 23:25, 25:20, 12:15), who played without Wilfredo Leon. Projekt Warszawa won 3:0 against ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle (25:22, 25:23, 25:19), while already in the first set Bartosz Kurek was hit in eye and left the arena at the beginning of the second set. Sunday was to start with a match between Asseco Resovia and PSG Stal Nysa.
Due to difficult weather conditions caused by the appearance of the Genoese low over Poland, Stal asked for the postponement match. The request was initially rejected. “The situation in our region is very difficult. The home of one of our players was flooded, and the families of our volleyball players are at risk. We wanted to return to Nysa and focus our efforts on helping all those who need help to fight the flood. Unfortunately, due to the match being scheduled for tomorrow, we did not receive permission to postpone the match,” Stal reported.
“Asseco Resovia, do you have a heart?” asked Andrzej Wrona, a player from the Project. Later, after considerable criticism on social media, Resovia issued a statement in which it agreed to the rival's request to postpone the match. “The situation that occurred, which is characterized by a state of natural disaster as impossible to predict, in the opinion of Asseco Resovia justifies postponing the match to another date, which will allow the players and the training staff to focus on the safety of their loved ones at this difficult time for everyone,” the Rzeszów team wrote in a statement.
“These actions, or rather taking them so late, were not well received by fans. Many internet users stated that although the club finally came to its senses, it was rather an attempt to save its image. In their opinion, the decision to postpone the match should have been made immediately when Stal made this request” – we wrote on Sport.pl.
Resovia captain reacts after storm. “We couldn't imagine playing a match”
Now Karol Kłos, who is the captain of the Rzeszów team this season, has addressed the matter related to the postponement of the Resovia – Stal match. “A huge storm has broken out, which no one needs. I feel called to respond. Together with the boys from Resovia, we could not imagine playing a match against Stal today. It is very good that it will not take place. The most important thing is the safety of the families of the boys from Nysa,” Kłos began.
“Instead of responding to all the accusations on social media, to stir things up even more, I preferred to make a few phone calls in the evening and take action. It's very easy to judge, write off or ruin someone when you don't know everything. It's even easier when you don't like the person, club or organisation. I wish everyone peace and health in the threatened areas, because that's what's most important today,” the Resovia player added on the X portal.
Fans and internet users praised Kłos for his reaction. “A true captain”, “Mr. captain, you are a guest”, “this is how a true captain should behave”, “communication from the club could and should be much better”, “this is my captain” – we read in the comments.
The new date of the match between Resovia and Stal Nysa is not known yet. Currently, there are more important things happening than sports“Let's focus on the possibilities of help and support for those in need, let's refrain from unnecessary comments that spread hatred,” Stal wrote on social media, stating that she was already returning to Nysa to help those in need.
