If it turned out that I was to be the one to fight in the presidential elections, representing the patriotic camp, I could not refuse for many reasons – said the president of the Institute of National Remembrance, Karol Nawrocki. At the same time, he emphasized that he was a “candidate for a candidate.” He also assessed that the exhumations in Volhynia are a condition for Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO, and the election of Donald Trump as US president is a good signal for Poland.
“Rzeczpospolita” asked the president of the Institute of National Remembrance in an interview on Thursday Karol Nawrockiwhether he is a future candidate for the president of Poland or the last president of the Institute of National Remembrance. – I am currently the acting president of the Institute of National Remembrance. I hope it won't be the last one, he replied.
Asked if he was a potential candidate PIS for president of Poland, the president of the Institute of National Remembrance replied that “the term 'potential' fits the situation.” – I am a candidate, this is how I function in public space. I've gotten used to it in recent months, he said.
– I am a non-partisan president of the Institute of National Remembrance, feeling responsible for Poland, not only for Institute of National Remembrance. I regularly say that if I were invited to represent the patriotic camp in the presidential elections, I would not be able to say “no”. Which does not change the fact that I have been non-partisan for 41 years, he assured.
Nawrocki: I didn't get an offer
During the conversation, a question was also asked whether the president of PiS Jarosław Kaczyński he expressed that he would like Nawrocki to become the PiS candidate for president.
– I'm on the candidate list. I have not received an offer from anyone to become a candidate in the race for the president of Poland. If it turned out that I was to be the one to fight, representing the patriotic camp, I could not refuse for many reasons. For a year now, Poland has been in a situation that deeply worries me, said Nawrocki.
He also noted that he “never said he would like to become the president of Poland.” – I hold such a position in the infrastructure of the Polish state that no one would like to see the president of the Institute of National Remembrance who is not ready to take responsibility for Poland when necessary – he added.
Nawrocki: Trump's election is a good signal for Poland
The President of the Institute of National Remembrance also said in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita” that “the re-election of Donald Trump as president of the USA is a very good choice for Americans, but also a very good signal for Europe, which is losing its existential values.”
– This is a very good signal for Poland. This choice may have an impact on restoring basic normality in the region of the world in which we live. I hope so, he said.
He also addressed the issue of ascension Ukraine down NATO. In his opinion, “the condition for Ukraine's accession to European and NATO structures must be consent to the exhumation of Poles in Volhynia.” – This is a civilization test – he added.
