Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, became the candidate of Law and Justice in next year's presidential elections. In his speech during the convention in Krakow, he referred to, among others, security, economy and the rule of law. Here are the highlights of his speech.
Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, became the candidate of Law and Justice in next year's presidential elections. PiS presents Nawrocki as a “civic” and “non-party” candidate. He is not a member of Law and Justice or any other party. The President of the Institute of National Remembrance is prohibited from doing so by law.
During the Sunday afternoon convention in Hala Sokół, Nawrocki performed to music from the movie “Rocky”. He gave a speech on stage in which he referred to specific issues, including security, economy and the rule of law. There were also specific proposals.

1. “The First Promise” by Nawrocki
– As a nation, we must finally make an effort to extinguish the Polish-Polish war. This is my first promise and proposal. If you trust me as a civic candidate, the Polish-Polish war will end, he argued.
2. “Freeing hard-working Poles from overtime taxes”
The candidate also announced that he would come up with new legislative initiatives.
– To save the well-being of hard-working Poles, I will come up with further legislative initiatives. The first will be to free hard-working Poles from taxes for overtime earned, he said.
3. Nawrocki on the “attack of the authorities on independent institutions”
Nawrocki also referred to the issue of the rule of law.
He stated that “there has been incredible chaos in the functioning of the law and in the administration of justice.”
He also said that the functioning of the institution that was taken over by PiS during its rule was at risk. – Poles are already getting lost in the new messages about who is and who is perhaps not a Polish judge. Article seven of the constitution, which deals with the rule of law, is consistently violated. The decisions and judgments of the Supreme Court, as well as the essence of such an important body as it is, are being questioned Constitutional Tribunal. There is a disturbing attack on institutions independent of the executive power, and I am the president of one of such institutions, so I know this unjustified attack, he said.

4. Nawrocki on “naivety” in the attitude towards Russia
Nawrocki also referred to the current geopolitical situation in our region, including the Russian invasion Ukraine.
– It was naive to be dependent on Russian raw materials. Today I know it. It was naive to believe that Nord Stream 2 is a business project. Europe's lack of reaction to the Russian arms process was naive. It was naive to believe that Russia you will be able to tame it. We already know this today, he said.
5. Nawrocki on “big projects”. He mentioned CPK
Nawrocki also assured that “there will be no great Poland without large projects such as the Central Communication Port, with a full railway network, and with shipping transport.”
– Poles simply need to be closer to each other, closer to their work, closer to their friends, in well-connected Poland, which is the center of Europe – he said. – Today, in the 35th year of the Third Polish Republic, should we abandon the construction of the Central Communication Port? Can't we modern people cope? – he asked.
6. Nawrocki on values and “taking down crosses in the offices of the Polish capital”
Nawrocki also spoke about Christian values, of which “we cannot be ashamed.” – We cannot be ashamed of these values and take down crosses in the offices of the Polish capital – said Nawrocki.

7. Nawrocki on “European Union citizens of Polish origin”
Nawrocki also spoke about the need to emphasize Polish identity within the structures of the European Union. – Poland does not need the direction of a centralized state inhabited by European Union citizens of Polish origin – he emphasized.
8. Security and effective border defense
The candidate also referred to the issue of military security. He said that “in these troubled times of war” it must become a “demarcation line for political disputes” for years to come. He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that – as he stated – “representatives of the ruling camp regularly insulted the new US president-elect Donald Trump”, in the context of the strategic alliance with USA. He also added that he believes “in Poland effectively defending its borders, not in Poland paying illegal immigrants to leave our country.”
9. Nawrocki on “climate madness”
The PiS candidate also talked about issues related to ecology.
– Ecology – yes, climate madness at the expense of Polish homes, entrepreneurs and employees – no – declared the president of the Institute of National Remembrance.
10. About the development of new technologies
Nawrocki also talked about the development of the market for new technologies, which – in his opinion – are good when they “serve people and the security” of Poland.
He cited the creation of cyberspace protection forces or an Artificial Intelligence implementation center as an example of the good use of new technologies. He said that such initiatives require “a social and ethical initiative of the state.” – In the noise of disputes, we cannot sleep through the changes in civilization dynamics – he said. Nawrocki promised that he would strive to eliminate barriers in the field of new technologies. – Let's tell those who work in the field of new technologies that Poland also needs them – he appealed.
