National road No. 28 in Kasina Wielka (Małopolskie Voivodeship) is still closed to traffic. The landslide that formed on the roadway is still active. Existing fissures get bigger and new cracks appear.

The landslide was formed at the end of May and the road has been closed since then. As Tomasz Pałasiński, director of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in Krakow, assessed, it is not even possible to allow shuttle traffic for passenger cars in this place. The danger is too great.

“Unfortunately, the cracks in the road are getting bigger all the time. There are also new ones, including on the southern side of the road, where drainage is secured. It is clearly visible that the landslide is active and constantly working. Therefore, it is not possible to allow traffic in this place, even bypass, shuttle traffic and only passenger traffic – reports director Pałasiński.

They are investigating a landslide

Already in June GDDKiA prepared a preliminary geotechnical expertise, and since July works related to the preparation of a full expertise have been underway. It is to be ready at the end of November and will answer questions about the size of the landslide, how to protect it and how to rebuild this part of the road.

The landslide cut an important communication route on the Mszana Dolna – Limanowa section. This route includes children and young people to school. The temporarily closed section is bypassed by local roads, but traffic flow problems may arise in winter. Representatives of the local government proposed preparing detailed ideas for detours on the closed section other than the previously proposed ones.

Next week, representatives of the General Directorate are to meet local government officials and representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure. According to GDDKiA, the aim of the meeting is to prepare a detour route that will ensure safe travel in winter and will be as little inconvenient for the inhabitants of the Limanowa region as possible.

Cracks on the national road No. 28 in Kasina Wielka appeared on May 29 this year. For safety reasons, the road was closed on May 31, and the detour was made on lower category roads.
