Deputy Katarzyna Piekarska from the Civic Coalition informed that she had been diagnosed with a malignant breast cancer. She admitted that “she is unable to understand the actions of the Ministry of Health”, which stopped the program of free preventive cancer tests for women. “You don’t care about the lives of women? Get out of it and quickly” – wrote the MP.

“As a person diagnosed with breast cancer 2 weeks ago, I am not able to understand the behavior of the Ministry of Health. You do not care about women’s lives? Get out of it and quickly!” – Katarzyna Piekarska, a member of the Civic Coalition, wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

In the entry, she shared TVN’s “Fakty” material about itthat the Ministry of Health suspended the program thanks to which free prophylactic examinations could be performed by patients particularly at risk of developing cancer.

– We have a pool of patients, a whole group of patients who, according to the projects from previous years, should undergo control examinations in July and August, and we cannot arrange these patients at the moment – said Dr. Małgorzata Stawicka-Niełatna, a specialist in the field of laboratory medical genetics from the Department of Clinical Genetics and Pathomorphology of the University of Zielona Góra. She explained that the program – which had been in operation for almost a quarter of a century – provided care for the risk group of carriers of mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. There are two million women in Poland at such risk.

Genetic research, which helped to find more women genetically burdened with cancer, was also suspended. The reason is also the fact that the program was not extended by the Ministry of Health.

Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski He proposed that now that the program is “redefined”, women sign up for the regular queues for preventive examinations.
