Katowice. A building collapsed in the Szopienice district. There was a gas explosion

A gas explosion occurred in a three-story residential building in the Szopienice district of Katowice on Friday morning. The house collapsed as a result of the explosion. A rescue operation is underway with the participation of several fire brigades. Four people are being rescued from under the rubble, the fire brigade said.

According to PAP, the spokeswoman for the Silesian fire brigade, junior brigade Aneta Gołębiowska, the explosion took place around 8.30 am in the building at ul. Bishop Herbert Bednorz 14.

The information also appeared on social media.

“Four people have been rescued, they are being helped. The building has collapsed. There are currently 15 fire brigades on site, including a specialist search and rescue team from Jastrzębie-Zdrój,” the spokeswoman said.

– We have received several reports that a part of the building in Katowice at Bednorza Street has collapsed. It happened around 8.45 – Łukasz Kloc from the Katowice police told us on Friday.

Initial reports show that there are casualties. It is not known how many people were in the building at the time of the explosion.
