Sebastian M., suspected of causing an accident on the A1 motorway, in which a family of three died, was brought to the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice on Tuesday, where he was charged. In the afternoon, the court in Piotrków Trybunalski decided that the suspect would remain in custody.
On Monday, Sebastian M., wanted with the red note of Interpol, went to Poland. He was taken from Warsaw to one of the Silesian arrests, and then the man was brought to the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice.
Allegations for Sebastian M.
As at noon, the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice, Sebastian M., was charged with a fatal accident. The suspect did not confess. He faces 6 months to 8 years.
– The suspect is applied temporary detention, and therefore the prosecutor will submit a request to maintaining the use of this measure in the court in Piotrków, and further actions of this investigation will already depend on the attitude of a suspect who has the right to read the files, as well as his defenders, has the right to submit evidence – said prosecutor Izabela Knapik from the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. She did not want to say how the suspect Sebastian M. explained his behavior. – We will not inform here, because the suspect has the right to explain in court – Prosecutor Knapik informed.
Decision decision
The Piotrków District Court accepted the application conducting the investigation of the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice for maintaining a temporary detention against Sebastian M. as special conditions for the use of this preventive measure, the fear of escaping the suspect, unlawful obstruction of the proceedings, as well as his severe punishment, was indicated.
Aleksander Duda from the District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice informed about the decision.
– The court in Piotrków Trybunalski ruled to maintain the detention on remand for 30 days by the same court, which was ruled in this respect in September 2023. If it is necessary, the next step is the prosecutor to submit an application for further application of this measure up to three months and in this respect the court of the investigation, i.e. the Katowice Court, is competent – said prosecutor Duda.
The man will be embedded in one of the penitentiary facilities in the Śląskie Voivodeship.

Defender Sebastian M. Patron Katarzyna Hebda told journalists that an appeal would be lodged against a court decision regarding detention.

Interrogation with two defenders
The representative of the victims of the victims of the A1 after interrogation in the prosecutor's office went to journalists and confirmed that Sebastian M. had heard the allegation. – Today he finally read the investigative findings, he was formally charged with him. The hearing took place with the participation of his two defenders. The defenders requested insight into the files, so these files will definitely be made available to them – said Łukasz Kowalski, the representative of the victims' family. He confirmed that the suspect did not plead guilty, gave partial explanations and declared that he would be further explained at a later stage. – I expected that. The defenders and both the suspect themselves did not have an insight into the materials of this investigation. There are a dozen volumes of files, so even with such caution, my life experience as a lawyer, I would also suggest to the client that after reading these materials, I would respond to them and such a role was taken by the defenders and the suspect himself – summed up patron Łukasz Kowalski.
Stopping Sebastian M.
M. was detained on May 23 In the United Arab Emirates, and on Monday, May 26, a cruise plane from Dubai was transported to Poland.
According to the police, the man was hiding, changing his place of residence and cars, and masked his identity with clothing.
– The perpetrator escaped from Poland and believed that being abroad, the big money he had at his disposal would provide him with impunity – he said on Monday Tomasz SiemoniakInterior Minister and Administration. And he added: – This whole story shows that it is impossible to hide, you cannot escape. (…) Polish justice, the Polish state will find them and lead them to court.
A tragic accident on A1
On September 16, 2023, the speeding BMW hit the A1 motorway near Piotrków Trybunalski on a passenger Kia, where a family of three rode – a marriage and a five -year -old son. Their car stood in flames, everyone died.
Immediately after the accident, firefighters reported that “two passenger cars collided”. On September 18, Piotrkowska police issued a message in which it was written that “the KIA driver at the moment hit energy -consuming barriers for unexplained reasons, then the car came on.” There was no information that BMW also participated in the accident.
On September 24, in the next position of the Piotrków police, it was written that in the accident “Kia and BMW took part”. “Policemen secured a number of traces, questioned witnesses. We also reached a number of recordings from cameras that we hope will allow you to explain what was the reason for this huge tragedy. The subject of this investigation is also an explanation whether the behavior of the BMW driver had a direct impact on the occurrence of the event” – they told the uniform.
Sebastian M. sat behind the wheel of BMW after the accident, a man escaped from Europe. On the order of the then prosecutor general Zbigniew Ziobra A warrant was issued behind him. M. was also wanted on the basis of the red note Interpol. The police in the United Arab Emirates, supported by the Polish special search group, stopped him in Dubai. He was released from custody for deposit and, according to media reports, received the so -called A golden visa, giving him the status of a resident.
The Polish prosecutor's office, as part of the extradition procedure, applied for the issue of Sebastian M. to Poland. In January, the Court of Appeal in Dubai, deciding as a court of first instance, stated “unlawfully legal admissibility of extradition Sebastian M. to Poland.” This ruling was appealed in February by a man, and at the beginning of May Supreme Court The United Arab Emirates finally found the extradition as acceptable
