Due to forest fires in north-eastern Kazakhstan in the Abaysk region, 14 people died, the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Saturday. A state of emergency has been declared in the capital of the region.

In the north-east of Kazakhstan, in the Abay region, forest fires are raging, which covers an area of ​​​​60,000 hectares. As the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on Saturday, 14 people died as a result of the fire.

A state of emergency was declared in the city of Semej – the administrative center of the region.

Firefighting continues in nine areas with the participation of more than a thousand people from 252 units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Forestry Committee and the Ministry of Defense, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reports.

The firefighting operation is hampered by the hot weather.
