On Wednesday, around 7 p.m., the services received a report of a fire in the stairwell on the seventh floor of one of the blocks of flats at Grunwaldzka Street in Kielce. As senior firefighter Beata Gizowska from the Kielce fire brigade informed us, three people evacuated outside before the rescuers arrived.
Fire in a block of flats, police investigating the case
– There was smoke only above the fire and did not require further evacuation – said Gizowska. None of the residents required medical assistance.
Four teams of firefighters worked on site, extinguishing the flames and checking the scene with a thermal imaging camera. They also checked “the atmosphere with a multi-gas detector, excluding threats.”
– Our findings show that someone most likely set fire to the garbage located between the sixth and seventh floors. It is possible that this was a deliberate action. We will discuss the details, Małgorzata Perkowska-Kiepas, a press officer of the Kielce police, told us.
