Kirstie Alley has died at the age of 71, the actress’s family announced. Known, among others, for her role in the 1989 film “And Who’s Talking” in which she played alongside John Travolta and the two-time Emmy Award winner for the role of Rebecca Howe in the comedy series “Cheers” “died after a fight with recently diagnosed cancer” – they informed her relatives.

Kirstie Alley’s death was confirmed on the actress’s official social media, where a statement from her children was shared. “We are sad to announce that our amazing, fierce and loving mother passed away after a battle with recently diagnosed cancer,” the statement read.

“She was surrounded by her closest family, she fought with all her might, leaving us with her endless zest for life and her desire for adventure. While she was an icon on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

“We are grateful to the amazing team of doctors and nurses at Moffitt Cancer Center for their care,” the statement said. “Her enthusiasm and passion for life, children, grandchildren and many animals, not to mention her passion for creation, were unparalleled and inspired us to live life to the fullest. Thank you for your love and prayers, and please respect our privacy during this difficult time” – added .

Kirstie Louise Alley was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1951. She moved to Los Angeles in 1980, where she worked as an interior designer. In 1982, she began her film career – her first appearance was in the film “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”, then in the film “Blind Date”, as well as participation in the miniseries “North South” in 1985.

She gained great popularity thanks to the role of Mollie Jensen in the 1989 film “Who’s Talking” in which she played alongside John Travolta. The production turned out to be such a great success that in 1990 and 1993 she appeared in subsequent parts of the comedy.

Her role in Cheers alongside Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson earned her two Emmy Awards. She won her second Emmy Alley Award for her role in the TV movie David’s Mother. In recent years, the actress has mainly appeared in reality shows, including “Taniec z Gwiazdami” (“Dancing with the Stars”).
