Over 600 residents of Stronie Śląskie will return to their apartments after the September flood. “Necessary renovation works have been carried out in the buildings,” says the mayor of Stroń, Dariusz Chromiec. However, some flood victims in Lower Silesia are still in a difficult situation. On Friday, Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced an offer for the residents of a block of flats in Kłodzko destroyed after the flood.

In Stronie Śląskie, there are 200 apartments in characteristic green blocks located near the dam on the Morawka stream. The buildings were damaged during the September flood, which culminated in the rupture of the embankment in the dam on the Morawka stream.

After the disaster, over 600 residents of these buildings could not return to their homes. The wave damaged, among others, foundations of buildings and severed water, sewage and gas connections. The residents were accommodated in a hotel in Sienna, a few kilometers away from Stronie.

On Friday, after more than two months, they will return to their apartments. “The necessary renovation works have been carried out in the buildings and they have been checked for safety. Utilities have been supplied – heat and water. There is no gas for now because the internal installation still needs to be repaired. Residents will receive electric cookers for the time being,” said the mayor of Stronia, Dariusz Chromiec. .

He added that residents are returning to their homes faster than previously expected. Originally, it was indicated that this would only be possible during Christmas.

The mayor said that about 100 people in Stronie Śląskie still cannot return to their homes. “For various reasons – either the buildings are undergoing renovation, or they are uninhabitable at all and are being demolished,” Chromiec said. He added that a housing estate of modular houses will be built for residents who lost their apartments in the flood. Each of them has an area of approximately 70 square meters. “It will be 26 buildings and one multi-apartment building,” said the mayor.

The local government will buy apartments

On Friday, November 29 Marcin Kierwińskithe government's representative for post-flood reconstruction, announced that he would present an offer to the residents of the block of flats at ul. Chełmoński in Kłodzko.

– We want the local government to purchase apartments from the funds of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, which can be the basis for a conversation with the tenement house's residents, asking them to live in these apartments. They spent the money they would be able to receive as part of the compensation allowance, up to PLN 200,000, to finish these apartments. I think that the mayor (of Kłodzko) will submit the appropriate documents by December 18, said Marcin Kierwiński, government plenipotentiary for post-flood reconstruction.
