Kołobrzeg. A taxi fatally hit a 20-year-old on a pedestrian crossing

The accident occurred at around 1 a.m. from Saturday to Sunday, on Koszalińska Street in Kołobrzeg. The first to arrive at the scene were police officers, who began resuscitation of the man and called an ambulance. The 20-year-old victim was transported to hospital, but he could not be saved.

– A twenty-year-old man was hit by a car on a marked pedestrian crossing. He died in hospital due to his injuries – informed the press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Kołobrzeg, Deputy Commissioner Karolina Seemann.

The perpetrator, a 33-year-old taxi driver, was arrested at the scene of the accident. A breathalyzer test gave a negative result. He was taken to the police station and is being held in a detention room. Deputy Commissioner Seemann said that no charges had been brought against him at this time.

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the police under the supervision of the local prosecutor's office. Causing an accident with a fatal outcome is punishable by up to 8 years in prison.
