Konin authorities will take a loan of five million zlotys to remove part of the illegal waste landfill at Marantowska Street. About 4.6 thousand used tires and garbage over the gas pipeline will be transported.
Councilors of Konin agreed to take a loan from the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Poznań.
This will allow you to start the removal of waste from an illegal landfill at ul. Marantowska. In the first stage, tires and garbage lying on the gas pipeline are to be used, which is supplied with gas to the steelworks in Konin. During the session of the City Council, the deputy president Konin Paweł Adamów explained that the biggest threat that the city wants to neutralize is the inability to get into the gas pipeline, which should be preserved at least once a year. – It has not been serviced for several years, there are no reviews on this episode, because there is no access to this infrastructure – said Adamów.

They want to create a 40-meter belt without waste
As part of a replacement execution, the city wants to create a 40-meter belt without waste above the gas pipeline, which will allow its maintenance. This means the utilization of about 4.1 thousand tons of rubbish. In addition, Konin's authorities want to get rid of about half a thousand tires taken to the landfill. The estimated cost of these activities is about 4.6 million zlotys. After receiving the loan, the city will have to write a tender. The utilization process itself can take almost two years. The biggest problem is the processing capabilities of the garbage incineration, to which waste is to be sent.

Someone set fire to the tires. Smoke pole visible
The waste landfill was built at ul. Marantowska in 2018. A small company from Nieszawa (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) obtained permission to run it. A moment after its launch, the Provincial Inspectorate for Environmental Protection stated that waste is not in accordance with the permission obtained. In total, there are currently about 15,000 tons – mainly plastics and tires. The estimated cost of cleaning up the entire landfill is about PLN 13 million. In October 2018, the city authorities withdrew the company permission to collect waste, and a year later imposed a fine on the company PLN 50,000 in connection with their failure to clean up. The penalty could not be enforced.
– The company was a company -krzak, it had no property from which one could download (fine – ed.) – said Adamów. As he said, Konin became a victim of the “European garbage mafia.” In the District Court in Konin for six years there has been a trial in which the owners of the landfill are accused.
In previous years, waste fires occurred several times. Greatest It broke out in April 2023. The fire covered an area of about three thousand square meters. Over a dozen or so hours, over 200 firefighters from all over the region fought with him, and the pillar of smoke could be seen from a distance of several kilometers. On the same day, the police detained the suspect in set fire to the landfill of a 27-year-old resident of Konin-Grzegorz B. The man was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
