Police officers from Nowa Sól (Lubuskie Voivodeship) detained a man who, while driving drunk in Konotop, caused a collision. The driver – at the sight of the policemen – started to run away. The 31-year-old had over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his body.

The incident took place in the town of Konotop in the commune of Kolsko. The person on duty from the Nowy Sola headquarters received a report about a probably drunk driver who ran into the property’s fence

– The officers urgently went to the scene. On reaching them, they noticed that the man started to run away when he saw them – reports Justyna Sęczkowska from the police in Nowy Sącz.

The policemen started to chase the fugitive on foot. The man didn’t get far from them. The uniform smelled a strong scent of alcohol from him. The witnesses of the incident stated that he was driving the vehicle that hit the property’s fence, says Sęczkowska.

The detainee is a 31-year-old citizen of Georgia. An alcohol test showed that he had more than 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his body.

– The police detained the 31-year-old’s driving license and registration card for damage to the vehicle structure. The man was imprisoned in a police room for detainees in order to sober up, and the car was towed away at the owner’s expense – explains Sęczkowska.

After sobering up, he heard the allegation of drunk driving. He will also be responsible for causing a collision. – The further fate of the man is in the hands of the court – informs Sęczkowska. The man, in addition to the ban on driving, is facing up to two years in prison.
