In Kostrzyn nad Odrą (Lubuskie Voivodeship), two women were hit on Saturday on a housing estate road. Rescuers had to pull them out from under the vehicle. The police arrested a 38-year-old drunk after the accident. As it turned out, he wasn’t driving the car.
The accident happened on Saturday around 11.30 pm on Maria Konopnicka Street in Kostrzyn nad Odrą. A BMW drove into two women. The victims, aged 43 and 48, suffered injuries and were hospitalized.
As the portal naszemiasto.pl wrote, the driver, according to witnesses, was supposed to move “at high speed”. At some point, he lost control of the vehicle, drove into the women, and then into the fence. After the accident, the driver reportedly tried to flee the scene. Both women were seriously injured and one of them was crushed by the vehicle.

Initially, everything indicated that the car was driven by a 38-year-old citizen Ukraine. A sobriety test showed that the man had more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in his body. His 35-year-old wife, who was driving with him, was also intoxicated, the examination showed that she had more than one and a half per mille of alcohol in her body.
“The police arrested the man to investigate the circumstances of the accident. After sobering up, further activities will be carried out with him – informed on Sunday the senior aspirant Agata Kądziołka from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gorzów Wielkopolski.
His wife was charged
The man was due to be charged on Monday. But further findings of the police showed that it was not him who was behind the wheel, but his wife. Ultimately, she was charged with causing while intoxicated traffic accident.
– The suspect faces up to 4.5 years in prison. She pleaded guilty to causing the accident and driving under the influence of alcohol. The prosecutor applied libertarian preventive measures against her, said the spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Łukasz Gospodarek, on Tuesday.
The investigation into the case is conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Słubice.
