The demolition of the trade union in Koszalin began on Monday, March 24 and is to last a few more weeks. The thirteen -storey building is undressed from the highest floor.

A recording appeared on Thursday, which shows demolition works. At some point, the long arm excavator touches the wall of the building, and a large fragment of the building collapses to the ground. A cloud of thick dust appears in the air, which obscured the area around the place of demolition work.

TVN24 reporter Bartosz Bartkowiak said on Thursday on the air that various trade unions had their headquarters in the building for years – hence its name.

He emphasized that “construction supervision is supervised by demolition works.” – The works arouse great interest among the inhabitants of Koszalin, who say that a piece of the city's history is just disappearing and turns into dust – he added.

President Koszalina Tomasz Sobieraj emphasized that the demolition is based on the documents presented by the contractor and the owner of the object.

The day after the demolition began, debris fell on the street, and a few hours later a decision was made to exclude it from traffic. Streets of Zwycięstwa and Matejko, on the section from the roundabout of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence to ul. Waryński, were closed until further notice.

The junior brigadier Bartłomiej Góral, press officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Koszalin, said that at night a part of the undressed building had changed. “There was a suspicion that there could be injured persons on the spot, who, as a result of obtaining scrap metal, could enter the demolition area II this scrap simply choose,” he said.

Two fire brigades went to the scene. Highlander said that fortunately nothing serious became. – The area is monitored and supervised around the clock by a security company – added the fireman.

The building was put into use in 1972. It owes the name to the fact that it was located in it, among others trade union offices. For many years, there was a cafe with a terrace on his last floor. In accordance with the local local development plan, a facility for five floors for service will be able to be built at the trade union place.

On January 31, during a press conference, President Koszalina Tomasz Sobieraj informed about the declaration submitted to the owner of the trade union. It was to apply to a change in the spatial development plan, so that on this particular plot it could be built higher.

He issued a final decision allowing the demolition of the West Pomeranian Voivode at the end of January 2025. According to the original plans, the trade unionist was to disappear from the map of the center in the spring of 2024. In the second half of February 2024, the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Municipal Office in Koszalin issued a positive decision on its demolition. However, the inhabitants of one of the neighboring housing communities appealed to the West Pomeranian Voivode.

According to the law, the owner of the trade union could remove elements that threaten the safety of people and dismantle the outbuilding. And he did it. In the applicants' opinion, however, he was also going to demolish the walls of the main building, and he already needed permission.

The course of the work was controlled by construction supervision, which in the second half of March last year ordered to suspend works until a final demolition permit was obtained. When this did not work, the prosecutor's office was notified of the possibility of committing a crime. She initiated an investigation and joined in administrative proceedings.

At the beginning of April 2024, the West Pomeranian Voivode annulled the contested decision to demolish by the municipality. The procedure for obtaining a permit for these robots returned to the starting point, while the investor was obliged to submit additional expertise. In the summer, the District Prosecutor's Office in Koszalin, after obtaining the opinions of experts, who excluded the danger of a trade unionist collapsed, discontinued the investigation.

In September, the municipality again reached the demolition of the building. This decision, the prosecutor's office, who was a party to administrative proceedings, appealed against the West Pomeranian Voivode, who did not comply with the complaint on January 30, 2025, and he upheld the decision of the Koszalin City Hall. The prosecutor's office did not exercise the right to lodge a complaint.
