EU Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn told Reuters that the European Commission would find a way to make EUR 111 billion of EU funds available to Poland. This concerns the National Reconstruction Plan (KPO) and the Cohesion Fund.

Hahn assured that the EC “will certainly support the prime minister’s efforts.” Donald Tusk for these funds.

– I am convinced that we will find ways to help Poland. I have no doubt that, so to speak, they (the new government) are heading in the right direction when it comes to the rule of law, the commissioner added.

– We are not talking about an immediate transfer of billions, but rather about unblocking funds. We have to find a way to proceed, Hahn explained.

Reuters reminds that this was the first official statement by an EU commissioner about EU funds for Poland since the change of government in Warsaw.

Prime Minister Tusk arrived in Brussels on Wednesday afternoon to take part in the EU-Western Balkans summit and the meeting of the European Council. When asked by journalists about the payment of EU money to Poland, he replied that he was asking for patience and announced that the results of his talks would be “on the table” on Friday. He explained that the issue of paying out money from the Cohesion Fund is “analogous to funds from the KPO, so it does not require any separate actions.”

KPO is a program from which Poland is to receive EUR 59.82 billion (PLN 261.4 billion), including EUR 25.28 billion (PLN 110.4 billion) in the form of subsidies and EUR 34.5 billion (PLN 151 billion) in the form of preferential loans. Most of these funds will be invested in the form of financial instruments, which will enable the implementation of projects after 2026, even for the next 30 years.

The Cohesion Fund (established in 1994) makes funds available for environmental protection projects and for projects within the trans-European networks in those Member States whose gross national income per capita does not reach 90%. EU average. It was established to enhance the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the European Union in order to promote sustainable development. During the 2021-2027 programming period, the Fund supports: investments for the environment, including areas related to sustainable development and energy that bring benefits to the environment; trans-European networks in the area of transport infrastructure (TEN-T), technical assistance.

On Friday, according to European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer, EC President Ursula von der Leyen will meet the new head of the Polish government.
