A dangerous wave of downpours is approaching MaƂopolska and Silesia. Due to it, the night from Saturday to Sunday, as well as Sunday morning, may pass under the sign of serious difficulties for residents of Krakow and Katowice, among others.

– The center of the Genoese low, which brings heavy rainfall, is currently over southern Poland. A wide zone of precipitation and stormwhich appear over the southern, central and eastern parts of the country. As the weather forecaster emphasizes, “this wave of rain is associated not only with continuous rainfall, but also with thunderstorms, especially in the foothill areas and in the mountains.”

– There may be lightning discharges, but strongly developing clouds will mainly bring short-term downpours – he says.

KrakĂłw and Katowice at risk of heavy rain

The heaviest rainfall is expected on the night from Saturday to Sunday and in the first part of the day in MaƂopolska, Upper Silesia and the Opole region.

IN Krakow Continuous rainfall, temporarily heavy, is forecast from around 10 p.m. on Saturday to 2 a.m. on Sunday. Rainfall will average 60 litres per square metre, although locally it may reach 80 litres/sq m if a storm passes over the city. The situation may be worse to the south and southwest of the capital of MaƂopolska, where up to 100 l/m2 of rain may fall.

Continuous rain over Katowice They will probably appear around 11pm on Saturday. 60-80 l/m2 may fall throughout the night, and thunderstorms are also possible. Rainfall will be heavier to the south of the city, with about 100 l/m2 falling there.

Due to the heavy rainfall in the MaƂopolska province so far, the fire brigade intervened 189 times from midnight to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 122 times in Kraków alone.
