Kraków-Balice Airport was the first airport in Poland to launch a procedure for the purchase of ten modern cabin baggage security control systems. This information was provided by the authorities of the Małopolska port on social media. The appearance of the devices will mean great convenience for travelers.

The Kraków-Balice airport authorities announced that the latest technological solutions, using computed tomography, are primarily intended to increase the comfort and speed of passenger service. “The subject of the procedure is the delivery, installation and launch of ten special, modern CT scanners, thanks to which passengers will no longer have to remove liquids or electronics from their luggage,” said Radosław Włoszek, president of the management board of Kraków Airport.

“We want – following the example of other airports in the world – to streamline inspections and improve the quality of service for our customers! We know from experience that tomographs work great when working with checked baggage,” he added.

Amsterdam's Schipol has already introduced modern CT X-ray scanning systems using 3D technology. At the end of last year, Great Britain announced that by June this year most UK airports must have high-tech scanners. In recent months, changes have also been introduced, among others: at Helsinki airport.

It has not been announced when the new devices will appear at the Kraków-Balice airport.

Tests at Warsaw Chopin Airport

In the second half of last year tests of one modern device for screening cabin luggage took place at Warsaw Chopin Airport.

The capital port authorities also do not exclude the possibility of purchasing scanning systems. “PPL is at the stage of preparing tender documentation” – we could read in the response of Polskie Porty Lotnicze sent to the tvn24.pl business editorial office in mid-March.

Data from the Civil Aviation Office show that in 2023 the Kraków-Balice airport served nearly 9.4 million passengers in domestic and international traffic, both regular and charter. In this respect, the Małopolska airport was overtaken only by the Chopin Airport in Warsaw – about 18.5 million passengers. The airport in Gdańsk was on the lowest step of the podium – almost 5.9 million people.
