The police detained a 25-year-old and a 21-year-old after they failed to stop for a road check in a stolen car. This man was supposed to have stolen a car and put the Lubusz fire brigade and police on their feet a week earlier.
On December 3, police officers from Zielona Góra tried to stop the driver of a Fiat 500 for inspection. They suspected that the car had been stolen.
– Despite the instructions given in the form of light and sound signals, the driver did not stop the vehicle and continued driving. The officers recognized the driver as a 25-year-old they knew, reports Ewa Antonowicz, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Zielona Góra.
They found a lot of keys in their apartment
The police found a car parked at the address where the suspects lived. During the arrest they found, among others: various car keys, telephones, vehicle insurance documentation, lock breaker.
– The analysis of the activities carried out allowed for the interrogation of the 21-year-old as a witness and the 25-year-old as a suspect.
Investigators determined that the 25-year-old was responsible for the theft of a Fiat 500 from Guben, Germany, which occurred on November 29. Then he allegedly drove it with false license plates and did not stop for a road check. He was a recidivist and was banned from driving by the court.
The District Court in Krosno Odrzańskie agreed to the prosecutor's request and imposed provisional arrest on the 25-year-old for a period of 3 months.
His companion is gone
– The suspect is a man who was in Krosno Odrzańskie last week. Then he also failed to stop for a road check while driving an Audi. He escaped to the Odra River area together with a 21-year-old woman and another man who allegedly jumped into the river, whose fate is still unknown – says Antonowicz.
A specialist search group and firefighters were involved in the search. – Nine fire brigades, four rescue boats with sonars and twenty firefighters are in action. We check the river bottom and shore. There are also foot patrols. We are searching the area from Krosno Odrzańskie to Połęck, i.e. an approximately 10-kilometer section of the river. The activities will be carried out until dusk – said senior captain Michał Sztyber from the fire brigade in Krosno Odrzańskie on November 27. After six days, the search was ended.
In this case, the District Police Headquarters in Krosno Odrzańskie is conducting separate proceedings. The 25-year-old was charged with failing to obey an order to stop a motor vehicle, for which he faces up to five years in prison.
