“Nepotism” and “fat cats” – Jarosław Kaczyński uses this language fantastically, but he either does not control what is happening in the party, which I honestly doubt, or allows such actions in gratitude for a certain loyalty and passivity – he said on on TVN24 Krzysztof Izdebski, Open Spending EU Coalition, Batory Foundation expert, commenting on the career of the wife of PiS secretary general Krzysztof Sobolewski in companies controlled by the authorities.

Grzegorz Łakomski from tvn24.pl and Dariusz Kubik from “Black and white” in the reportage “In partnership with PiS. Ladies and gentlemen” described the career of Sylwia Sobolewska, wife of Krzysztof Sobolewski, secretary general of Law and Justice, in companies controlled by the authorities. Although Sobolewski assures that he has no influence on his wife’s career, and she is the last to know about her promotions, reporters reached the interlocutor who reveals the secretary’s wife’s employment in an indirect subsidiary of the Silesian Voivodship government, which until recently was ruled by PiS.

– “Nepotism” and “fat cats” – Jaroslaw Kaczynski he uses this language fantastically, but either he has no control over what is happening in the party, which I honestly doubt, or he allows such actions in gratitude for a certain loyalty and passivity – assessed Krzysztof Izdebski from Open Spending EU Coalition, an expert of the Foundation on TVN24 Batory.

– This is a picture of Polish politics and how the world of politics is intertwined with the world of business, and also of a business that is part of the national good, because we are talking about state-owned companies or municipal companies – he added. Krzysztof Sobolewski, on the other hand, according to Izdebski, “is just fucking stupid that he doesn’t know about it.” “It’s probably because of him, not even because of him but his involvement in politics, that his wife has a job where she has,” he said.

According to Izdebski, such actions by the rulers affect citizens’ trust in the state. – We are dealing with such individual stories, but also with the fact that it is a fairly broad phenomenon. This is what we can call the corruption of the state, which means that we as citizens, as a society, will not trust the people who run it and its institutions for a long time. And that’s probably the saddest conclusion of all,’ he said.

Izdebski: The problem included in the referendum is quite contrived

Law and Justice MPs submitted to the Sejm a draft amendment to the Act on the National Referendum. The proposed changes assume the adaptation to the Electoral Code of solutions enabling holding a referendum on the same day as, inter alia, parliamentary elections. As we read in the justification for the project, it is primarily about unifying voting hours. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed at a press conference that the government plans to hold parliamentary elections and a referendum on the relocation of migrants at the same time.

– This referendum does not seem to be a referendum in which citizens express their vote, it is supposed to be a kind of plebiscite. And the authorities do not hide the fact that they have to confirm the government’s opinion – commented Izdebski. – The problem and the consequences are that we are more and more divided, we are polarizing – he said, adding that “the problem included in the referendum (alleged forced relocation of refugees – ed.) is quite contrived. – These are not things he plans European Commission – he said.

An expert from the Stefan Batory Foundation assessed that as a result of such actions “our democracy will be battered” and that “we are building a campaign around such topics, when real problems are pushed to the background”. According to Izdebski, the organization of the referendum and parliamentary elections on the same day is to constitute “a challenge for electoral commissions that will count the votes.” “The results will be delayed, which will give both sides the opportunity to say that the election was rigged,” he added.
