Krzysztof Jurgiel, a member of Law and Justice in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, has been suspended as a party member, PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek said. He added that the decision was made by PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński. According to unofficial information obtained by Arleta Zalewska, the president was persuaded by Jacek Sasin, the head of the party's regional structures.

Law and Justice spokesman Rafał Bochenek announced on Thursday evening on the X platform that “by the decision of President Jarosław Kaczyński, as of today, Mr. Krzysztof Jurgiel, a member of Law and Justice in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, has been suspended from the rights of a PiS member.” As he added, “the decision enters into force on the day of its adoption.”

Jurgiel got into the European Parliament five years ago from the PiS list. He ran as a candidate in district no. 3, covering the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and Podlaskie Voivodeship. In the coming ones elections to the European Parliament he decided not to start. Previously, he was also the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – in 2005-2006 and 2015-2018. He was also the president of Białystok in 1995-1998.

As Arleta Zalewska, a reporter of “Fakty” TVN, unofficially found out, one of the reasons for suspending Krzysztof Jurgiel is to hold him responsible for the departure of two councilors of the Podlasie regional council.

Jacek Sasin convinced the president that Jurgiel is to blame for PiS's loss of power in the Podlaskie Voivodeship – one of the party's politicians tells us unofficially. Jaroslaw Kaczynski he also allegedly criticized the fact that Jurgiel supported Adam Andruszkiewicz, the PiS candidate, in the European Parliament elections, and not one of the list leaders, i.e. Maciej Wąsik and Karol Karski.

PiS lost Podlasie

After the recent local elections Law and Justice lost power in the local government of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.

Groupings of the government coalition, supported by two PiS councilors, led to the election of a new chairman of the local council, and later of the regional board. Łukasz Prokorym (KO) became the Marshal of the new term.

Wiesława Burnos and Marek Malinowski, elected from the PiS list, joined the board of the Podlaskie Voivodeship created by the KO and Trzecia Droga coalition.
