Krzysztof Pyrć appointed to the coronavirus advisory group at the European Commission

Professor Krzysztof Pyrć from the Małopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University was appointed to the SARS-CoV-2 advisory group at the European Commission. The tasks of the group will include establishing criteria for identifying coronavirus variants of particular interest, advising on the selection of variants at which vaccine development should be targeted, as well as analyzing the collected data and creating recommendations based on them.

“I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed to the SARS-CoV-2 advisory group at the European Commission” – Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć from the Małopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University. Krzysztof Pyrć was appointed on July 22 and he is the only Polish scientist to sit on this body as an individual expert.

“Considering the development and spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants and the need for the development or adaptation of COVID-19 vaccines in the European Union, and the impact of these factors on the EU vaccination and drug strategy and other possible actions on these issues, The European Commission urgently needs access to the knowledge and experience of experts, including in such fields as epidemiology, virology, clinical practice, immunology, vaccinology or pharmacology “- wrote on the website of the Jagiellonian University.

The European Commission is establishing an expert group on coronavirus variants

The group of specialists was established by the European Commission. Its tasks will include establishing criteria for identifying SARS-CoV-2 variants of particular interest, advising on the selection of variants on which vaccine development should be targeted, as well as analyzing the collected data and creating recommendations based on them.

The European Expert Group on SARS-CoV-2 Variants will be composed of individual experts and representatives of two bodies: the European Medicines Agency and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
