The Polish representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations made a reservation that he would not reveal the course of the UN Security Council meeting, because it was closed, but stressed that the discussion on the situation on the eastern border of the EU was “very committed”.

– The important thing is that all the Member States have expressed their opinion. This shows that this is not only a problem of Poland or Lithuania and that nobody else is interested in it, said Szczerski. Opinions were different because, as he noted, one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council is Russia.

An expression of solidarity with Poland

Szczerski also referred to the declarations of the members of the EU, the USA, Great Britain, Norway, and Albania, which will soon become a non-permanent member of the Council of Belarus. These countries stressed, inter alia, that Belarus, for political reasons, endangered the lives and well-being of migrants gathered at the border.

He pointed out that the statement clearly defined and condemned the instrumental use of migration by Belarus, expressed solidarity with Poland and Lithuania, and showed the determination of states to oppose these actions. He also stressed that it called on migrants’ countries of origin to cooperate in blocking transit channels, and called on Belarus to provide humanitarian access to migrants.

– We all believe that these people deserve humanitarian aid, such voices also appear in Poland. They are the righteous voices. However, the second sentence in this communication rarely appears that Belarus is blocking this aid today, said the representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations.

According to Szczerski, however, the voices raised in Poland, as he said, by the opposition or “media and celebrity circles” about the treatment of migrants by Polish services echo in New York. – They are quoted by all those who want to hit Poland during this conflict – he said.

Crisis on the border with Belarus

On Monday morning, the media published information about a large group of migrants walking on the Belarusian side towards the border with Poland. Migrants gathered in the vicinity of Kuźnica. The Ministry of National Defense informed in the afternoon that the services of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and soldiers had managed to stop the first mass attempt to cross the border. The migrants have set up a camp in the Kuźnica region, they are guarded by the Belarusian services.

Since September 2, due to the migratory pressure, a state of emergency has been in force in 183 towns in the Podlaskie and Lubelskie provinces adjacent to the border with Belarus. A dam is to be built on the border with Belarus in the first half of 2022.

When reporting on the events at the border, the media can use almost exclusively official government recordings and information. Journalists have no access to the area covered by the state of emergency.
