The wide lava flow from Cumbre Vieja on the Canarian island of La Palma is just 800 meters from La Laguna on Friday. Thus, it threatens the area, which has already been evacuated three times since the beginning of the eruption, reports the Spanish daily “El Pais”.

Two new openings in Cumbre Vieja were announced earlier this week. On Monday, according to the Involcan Institute of Volcanology of the Canary Islands, lava flowed down the volcano’s slopes at a speed of one meter per second.

The city is in danger again

From one of the holes on the northeastern side of the volcano, lava flows towards the areas that have so far survived, emphasized Maria Jose Blanco from a committee created to minimize the risk of eruption (Pevolca). It’s about the town of La Laguna. As the daily “El Pais” pointed out, the volcano once again poses a threat to areas that have already been evacuated three times since the beginning of the eruption, since September 19, when the volcano woke up after 50 years of silence.

On Friday, the wide lava flow headed towards the Atlantic Ocean was just about 800 meters from the city of La Laguna.
