Labor market. Central Statistical Office: the number of foreigners working in Poland has exceeded one million

As of February 2024, there are over a million foreigners in Poland, and their share in the total number of employees is 6.6 percent – according to data from the Central Statistical Office. Foreigners working in our country came from over 150 countries, the largest group was from Ukraine.

As reported by the Central Statistical Office, at the end of February 2024, there were 1,004.6 thousand foreigners working, including 384.2 thousand working under contracts for services and similar contracts. The majority were men, although their share decreased from 64.7 percent at the end of January 2022 to 59.5 percent at the end of February 2024.

Mostly from Ukraine

According to the announcement, the largest number of foreigners working came from Ukraine; at the end of February this year, there were 690.2 thousand of them. Their share decreased by 4.6 percentage points compared to January 2022 and amounted to 68.7%.

Citizens of, among others, have also worked in our country. Belarus (11.4%), Georgia (2.5%), India (1.8%), Moldova (1.3%) and Philippines (1%).

Every fifth person works in Warsaw

The Central Statistical Office noted that almost every fifth foreigner working in Poland lived in the Warsaw metropolitan area (19%), and the smallest number of people were from the Świętokrzyskie region (less than 10%).

It was noted that persons performing work do not include persons with civil law contracts; the data concern persons “working in the national economy and persons performing contracts of mandate and related contracts”.
