A 70-year-old man with a disability was driving an electric scooter drunk in Skowronki (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship). The policemen called to the scene took his vehicle away and handed it over to the person he indicated. When the situation repeated itself, the scooter was taken away by the police.

The website radio5.com.pl described the story of a 70-year-old man with both legs amputated who called the editorial office and said that he was driving a three-wheeled electric scooter while drunk. Although he did not hide the fact that he had consumed alcohol, he said that he did not expect the police to take away his vehicle, which allowed him to move around. And that’s exactly what happened.

“He complained that he had lost his window to the world,” we read on the website.

He got on a scooter twice while drunk

Senior Sergeant Damian Rytwiński from the District Police Headquarters in Olecko explains in an interview with tvn24.pl that the 70-year-old was detained twice.

– For the first time on September 2. Around 8 a.m. we received a report that he was driving drunk on a public road. He was arrested in Skowronki. He had over two per mille of alcohol in his body, he says.

He adds that the scooter the man was riding on went to the person indicated by the 70-year-old.

– For the second time, the same man rode the same scooter on a public road on September 29. He had one and a half per mille of alcohol in his orgasm, says the policeman.

The second time, the police officers did not hand the scooter over to anyone, but took it away.

– We determine whether the vehicle is approved. We received information from the manufacturer that it has it, but we need to verify it and carefully check the parameters. This is extremely important, because if it turns out that the scooter is not approved – like, for example, a bicycle – the man will be liable for a misdemeanor, and if it is approved, he will be liable for a crime punishable by up to three years in prison – says Rytwiński.

Police: the man has help at the center

He adds that despite the 70-year-old’s vehicle being taken away, the man was not left alone.

– He is a ward of the center that we informed about the case. The man was transported there. He is provided with every assistance regarding his disability. Also assistance in moving around – notes the policeman.
