Latvia. Ukraine handed over 66 cars confiscated from drunk drivers

So far, Latvia has delivered 66 cars to the Ukrainian armed forces. Vehicles were confiscated from drivers driving under the influence of alcohol, LETA news agency reported.

On Latvia it is possible to confiscate cars from drivers whose blood contains more than 1.5 per mille of alcohol. According to the decision of the authorities, the vehicles can be handed over for free to the fighting against Russia Ukraine.

With the initiative to hand over impounded vehicles Ukraine the ministry of finance. Relevant amendments to the law were passed by the Latvian Parliament in February.

The LETA agency reported on Sunday that so far Latvia has handed over to the Ukrainian armed forces 66 cars confiscated from drivers driving under the influence of alcohol.

Throughout 2022, 4,300 drivers who exceeded the legal blood alcohol limit were stopped on Latvian roads. Police statistics show that they have been involved in almost a thousand accidents.
