Laura Lynch, the founder of the band Dixie Chicks, later known as The Chicks, died on Saturday in a car accident near El Paso, Texas, USA. “A special place in our hearts is the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling,” wrote members of The Chicks on social media, remembering their friend.

The death of Laura Lynch – co-founder of the country band Dixie Chicks, known as The Chicks since 2020 – was announced by the group’s members on social media. The former singer and bassist was 65 years old.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Laura Lynch, founder of The Chicks,” the band wrote on social media. “The time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling holds a special place in our hearts,” we read in the statement.

The band members emphasized that “Laura was a bright light” and “her infectious energy and humor gave the spark to the beginnings of our band.” “Laura had a talent for design and a passion for all things Texas, and was instrumental in the band’s early success. Her undeniable talents helped us move beyond street corner performances to stages across Texas and the Midwest,” they wrote Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines, attaching a recording of one of their joint performances to the entry.

Laura Lynch died in an accident

According to Reuters, Laura Lynch died as a result of a car accident. The former singer and bassist was driving on the highway near El Paso, Texas, when her Ford was hit by an oncoming car. The driver of the other car was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Laura Lynch was one of the main vocalists and bassist of the Dixie Chicks band formed in 1989 in Dallas until 1995. She co-founded the group with Robin Lynn Macy and sisters Martie and Emily Erwin.
