A drunk priest celebrated funeral ceremonies at the cemetery in the Nowa Wieś Lęborska commune (Pomeranian Voivodeship). The police intervened on site. The priest was fined PLN 500.
This unusual event took place on Tuesday (November 14) at the cemetery in the Nowa Wieś Lęborska commune, Lębork poviat. The police received a report about an intoxicated priest performing funeral services.
– We received a report from witnesses about an intoxicated clergyman who celebrated funeral ceremonies at the cemetery in the Nowa Wieś Lęborska commune. He was tested with a breathalyzer test, which showed almost 1.5 per mille – said senior aspirant Marta Szałkowska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lębork, in an interview with tvn24.pl.
The policewoman added that the priest was fined PLN 500.
A drunk priest at a funeral in Gdańsk
A similar situation occurred in early December 2022 at a funeral in Gdańsk. Those gathered for the ceremony smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the priest from the Roman Catholic parish of Saint Maksymilian Kolbe. The priest was unsteady on his feet, stuttered, confused the sprinkler with a microphone, and finally fell on the grave.
