Lech Wałęsa is a figure who has permanently entered the pages of Polish history. The worker and electrician became the legendary leader of Solidarity and played a significant role during the August Agreements in 1980. A decade later, he became the first president of the Republic of Poland elected in general elections. In 1983 he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Lech Wałęsa is currently retired and is no longer involved in politics. However, he is very active on social media, where he willingly publishes private and often surprising photos (we could see him, among others, in a beer bath, and later immersed in a bathtub filled with wine or goat milk).. The former president also willingly gives numerous interviews in which he talks about his private life. On the occasion of Lech Wałęsa's 81st birthday, we recall some of his colorful statements.

Lech Wałęsa fell in love with Danuta Wałęsawhen she was a young girl and worked in a flower shop by the sea. Even though their love blossomed, they had to wait a few years to get married. They married on November 8, 1969, and over the following years welcomed eight children into the world. They spent their happiest moments when they lived in Stogi – before politics crept into their lives. A lot has changed since the 1980s. Wałęsa became involved in Solidarity and was often interned. The former president did not hide that he had a grudge against his wife. Over time, he began to talk about it publicly. “My wife told many things that should not have been told. This caused me to be perceived differently. My wife cannot forgive me for leaving everything: the house, children, her. That I was not interested in it. Later, Lech Wałęsa also complained about his wife on the breakfast channel. – We fit together especially in this difficult time. When we no longer have problems, we invent them ourselves and argue. My wife is constantly complaining. (…) I don't like to argue, but my wife does. He is constantly complaining about various things. I didn't put it there, I spilled it, I didn't wash the plate. At that time it was perfect, today it's a bit worse – he said in “Good Morning TVN“. In turn, during the “WojewódzkiKędzierski” broadcast, he claimed that his wife was… too perfect.
I admire her because she has many incredible qualities. Why is it that when she accuses me of something, I have nothing to accuse her of? She's simply too good. But I like him less and less because he oppresses me too much

It doesn't end there. Former president in one of the interviews he said that Danuta “stopped fulfilling her marital obligations.” However, in 2002, they surprised everyone with their tenderness during Wałęsa's birthday at the European Solidarity Center. “They behaved like the most exemplary couple. At times they resembled teenagers. Mrs. Danuta was hugging her husband and posing for photos,” he said. friend family in “Dziennik Bałtycki”.
