Leopard tanks. The repair hub in Gliwice has started operating – said the head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak

The Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak announced on Saturday that the repair hub for Leopard tanks in Gliwice has started operations. He added that the first two Leopards have already arrived from Ukraine to the Bumar-Łabędy plant.

Minister of National Defence Mariusz Blaszczak announced on Twitter on Saturday that “the renovation hub in Gliwice has started operating!”. He added that “the first two Leopards have already arrived from Ukraine to the Bumar plants.

In April in Ramstein during the meeting of the defense ministers of the countries FOR THIS Minister Błaszczak signed an agreement with his German counterpart on the creation of a service center for the entire family of Leopard 2 tanks at Zakłady Mechaniczne “Bumar-Łabędy”.

The head of the Ministry of National Defense reminded that in the near future in Ukraine there will be two battalions of Leopard 2 tanks in the 2A4 and 2A6 versions, which will be serviced and repaired at the “Bumar-Łabędy” plant.

Zakłady Mechaniczne “Bumar-Łabędy” is one of the companies belonging to PGZ. They are an entity classified as enterprises of strategic importance for the country’s defence. The company specializes in the production, repairs and modernization of armored equipment.

Leopard tanks for Ukraine

Leopard 2 are main battle tanks produced by the German concern Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, they are used by the armies of many countries in Europe, including several hundred pieces by Poland and Germany. In recent months, the transfer of a number of these tanks to the defending Ukraine has become the subject of intense debate. Finally, a decision was made to provide Ukraine with tanks in two versions – 2A4 and 2A6, each battalion of both types.

The government of Germany, which is the manufacturer of the Leopard tanks, has approved their transfer to Ukraine. Poland and Canada declared the transfer of Leopard 2A4 tanks, Germany is to hand over Leopard 2A6 and 2A4 tanks, and agreed to the transfer of up to 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks. The exact number will depend on the technical condition of the cars. By the summer it was supposed to be 20-25 tanks, by the end of the year 80 units.
