In Leszno (Wielkopolska) a car hit an 11-year-old girl on a pedestrian crossing. The perpetrator fled the scene. After a few hours, the police dealing with the case arrested a 70-year-old man.

As reported by Asp. Daria Żmuda from the Police Headquarters in Leszno, the police received a report about hitting a child on a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Racławicka and January 17 streets on Monday morning.

When the police arrived at the scene, they determined that the 11-year-old girl who had been hit was a citizen Ukrainelocated on a marked pedestrian crossing. Fortunately, nothing serious happened to the girl, she suffered minor injuries, and after tests she was taken home, she said.

The 70-year-old man was arrested a few hours later

Żmuda added that the perpetrator left the scene. She indicated that after a few hours, the policemen, based on the reports of witnesses who were at the site, as well as on the basis of monitoring records, determined that the perpetrator was a 70-year-old resident of the Poniec commune driving a Skoda. The man was sober.

– The driver is threatened with at least a fine of up to PLN 30,000, but in this particular case we are still talking about failure to provide assistance and here the court may issue an order prohibiting him from driving, hence the police stopped his license – said the policewoman.
